What our entry cost labels mean

Every listing carries one of these labels, taken from the promoter's own terms. Here is what each one commits to.

Free to enter

You can enter without spending anything. No purchase, no premium rate line, no data cost beyond your normal connection.

Some competitions have a paid route and a free route side by side. We label those free and describe the free route, because it is the one that costs you nothing.

Purchase required

You have to buy something to get an entry, usually a specific product, and usually with a till slip number or a code from the packaging.

Worth checking the value of what you are buying against the odds. A purchase you were making anyway is very different from one made only to enter.

Account required

Entry is open to customers of a particular service, or needs you to register with the brand first. Banking competitions are usually this.

Paid entry

Entering costs money directly, through a premium rate SMS or a per-entry fee. The cost is shown on the listing where the promoter publishes it.

Unclear

We could not establish the entry cost from the terms. We would rather say so than guess. Read the promoter's terms before entering these.
